Fast Forward for AirC2IS

 

This blue sky system implementation is unique for NATO; designed according to the NATO Network Enabled Capability (NNEC) tenets, it will operate, in the ever changing coalition environment, as the air functional service of the Bi-Strategic Command Automated Information System (Bi-SC AIS). 

 

The modern system architecture, which is service oriented architecture based, will allow for varied information exchange and capability extensions now and in the future.

 

The design has evolved through a user centric approach.  Two high fidelity mock-ups were used to present design concepts, to prove technical options, and to understand user tasks and workflows during five operational user workshops and multiple focus sessions.

 

 

The AirC2IS architecture consists of four main components: integration core; utility services; information portal and main applications.  The main applications for increment 1 are: TBMD planning, ORBAT, Tactical Information Display, Air Operations Directive, and Air logistics. The integration core design, which supports both internal and external interoperability, is reused in the implementation of the Afghan Mission Network Integration Core 2011.

 

An agile system development approach is chosen, and the first of six development sprints was started on 5 December 2011.  The initial AirC2IS baseline is scheduled to be piloted at two operational sites in the fourth quarter of 2012.
